Have a small amount of a couple of your favorite things. And drink lots of water.
i will tell you how i handled Thanksgiving and this year was even more successful than last - first, as dinner was going to be later in day i worked out an on plan light (protein rich) "snack" for late morning and did a protein drink my diet doc recommended - then for dinner i thought about it carefully and decided that stuffing and some gravy were going to be my off plan items as that is something that you just don't have available very often. i did briefly waver at the initial sight of the dessert table but reminded myself that the consequence would be difficult and as i had just done that routine following my vacation the memory was strong enough to provide a barrier and finally my go to plan for food dangerous gatherings - i wear tight fitting (but properly fitting) pants. Thursday I wore my "dream jeans" - these pants hung in plain sight in my bedroom for 5 years! I had almost gotten to that size and then I derailed...well i am finally able to wear them but they are definitely "reminder pants" - you reach for something and you feel the waistband - try and stuff yourself - there is no room for bodily expansion - i do that to many food centered occasions. and for the record my scale read the same Friday morning as it did Thursday morning!
I ate in small portions due to me on medication and it causes a decrease in my appetite, and its not a diet pill. No dessert at all. I feel good!
I solve it by not eating. When I'm faced with too many food choices it scares me so I eat nothing. I don't care what people say or think. No one can make me eat.
Try to eat something healthy beforehand or have something with me. Choose the healthier options and drink lots of water
