Members enthusiastically shared creative alternatives to formal bariatric water exercise classes, with many suggesting trying general water aerobics at local gyms, YMCAs, or community pools even if not specifically designed for bariatric patients. Several members offered encouragement to start at your own pace, with practical strategies like walking laps in the pool, booking private swim training sessions, or exercising alone in heated pools during quiet hours to build confidence and avoid feeling overwhelmed. A recurring theme was the liberating, low-impact nature of water exercise and the importance of doing what you can without comparison, gradually working up to more challenging routines as strength and endurance improve.

Maybe that is the answer for me, Lisa. I get more motivated in a class however as it keeps me accountable.

I go to a Sports Rehab and do 2hrs in a heated pool. I go at 715am 5 days a week. There is nobody but me in the pool.
I am coming out of a 5 yr couldn't get out of my bed. So the pool is the most freeing experience I have ever had. And the lest painful.

The doctor told me that I shouldn't focus on the aerobic classes per say but that I should just start off by walking laps in the pool and work my way up.

Thank you. I used to attend one but couldn't keep up with it now. I guess I need to start on my own.
