Im morbidly obese and started going to the gym 3 months ago. I have an instagram account where i track my journey as well as follow others who are also on the same journey. A few far ahead of me and some same as me.. things I learned from some of those women.
•Most people at the gym are there to better themselves. And they are concentrating on their own goals a lot more than they are concentrating on you.
•No one is obsessed with you as much as you are. This tidbit of knowledge had helped me immensely with a lot of aspects of my life.
•From my own advice. Put yourself in a bubble. You are there for you. If you on that treadmill. Barely at a jog but you panting like a dog in heat. With people working out on both sides of you. Don't falter. Dont slow down. And dont stop! Put yourself in that bubble.
Once the weight starts coming off you will start to feel better. You will start to walk into that gym owning it.
I have had FIT men smile genuinely and say hi to me! Ive had to ask for help on one machine and the guy was happy to help!! People there will also support and root for you. It takes a lot of courage to step into a gym. And an extra mound of courage when you are struggling with obesity. We are strong. We can do this!
A friend of mine told me not to worry about being judge nobody does that. Everyone is there to do them not to talk about the next person!!!
I pray before I go and it helps me a lot.I think it is normal for some people to get a little anxious at times,so for some going to the gym can cause it a little sometimes. You have to remember your going there to help yourself and if your a Christian then our body belongs to God and we need to get in shape.I also remind my self that we are all on our own personal journey and we all have struggles. The gym(YMCA) that I go to has people of all walks of life from young to old,too skinny to over weight, people trying to gain weight and people trying to lose weight.I feel blessed when I see someone with maybe one leg and one prosthetic leg etc., and realize how blessed I am to be able to get in to the gym and do what some people only wish they could.Seeing people like those special people give me motivation to use what the good Lord gave me.
I can't afford to pay for a gym membership. But I do try exercise classes for free held at our local library and health department for easy low impact exercise held in using chairs. I stay hydrated and eat light with healthy proteins for energy. I tell myself that it's for the best of my health and happiness and I'll live longer and happier when I get social anxiety for being in front of others.
Remember that it is saving my life and that's my goal right now is to stay alive.
