I had a friend recently do the duodenal switch and he has not had one complication and is now down over 200 pounds. He did a bunch of research beforehand on which surgery and which surgeon was right for him. I think whichever surgery you go for you have to really make sure you do that research and get the best fit and best surgeon you can.

I also have been considering surgery. I'm unsure which is the best

I also weigh 250lbs and have lost it before. I am pretty determined to do it myself but hope that you find the right answer for you :) I have seen good things with Lap bands in friends :)

Most bariatric surgeons don't do the lap band any more. The most common surgeries are the gastric bypass (RNY), gastric sleeve and the duodenal switch ( gastric sleeve with rerouting the intestine to mal absorb).

I had the duodenal switch almost 14 months ago. Best decision I've ever made.
