For me I stopped eating white sugar 40+ years ago because I saw how much my parents was eating it in a week's time 5+ pounds of it was too much so that's why I quit cold turkey and never looked back and I don't even miss it as far as sweets go I eat them in moderation mainly holidays but since I cut the white sugar out I don't have any sugar cravings but having an occasional sweet treat every now and then isn't going to hurt but everyone is different some choose to quite sweets all together but this is what I do
You don't have to cut it out all together just have it occasionally and it's okay to buy sweet treats at the store every now and then don't let that get you down you're doing fine as long as you get back on your healthy lifestyle
