Have you or others tried the new sleep apnea drug in clinical trials?
A new once-daily oral medication called AD109 recently completed a phase 3 clinical trial for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The trial included 646 adults who took either AD109 or a placebo pill at bedtime for six months.
The results were encouraging:
* 55.6% drop in sleep interruptions
* About half of participants moved to a lower OSA severity category
* Over 1 in 5 achieved full disease control
* The treatment was generally well tolerated with no serious side effects
This could be significant for people with obesity, who are more likely to develop OSA. Unlike CPAP machines, which some find uncomfortable or difficult to use, this pill targets the root cause by strengthening airway muscles during sleep.
The drug manufacturer plans to seek FDA approval in early 2026, so it may still be several months before it becomes available. In the meantime, talk with your doctor about current treatment options if you're experiencing sleep apnea symptoms.
